We are Brit Es are delighted to announce our very first event: CORTOMETRAJES — 7 Short films, a screening which will take place on 16 September from 7pm. The event has been set up to put the spotlight on Brit Es talent and creativity — a concept that encompasses people, projects, trends and proposals which emerge in the United Kingdom, but with a Spanish character or origin which are also influenced by British culture.

The event has been set up to put the spotlight on Brit Es talent and creativity — a concept that encompasses people, projects, trends and proposals which emerge in the United Kingdom, but with a Spanish character or origin which are also influenced by British culture.
We have produced and planned this project in collaboration with Shorts on Tap, a British platform which aims to promote shortfilm cinema, encourage the exchange of ideas and raise awareness of social issues through cinema. Throughout the whole process, the unconditional support of our patron Uniter (www.uniter.net) has proven indispensable.
The programme is made up of a special selection of 7 short films which offer an eclectic point of view on the reality of today across different genres. As well as watching the films themselves, the audience will get the chance to talk to the directors and there will also be a number of special guests.
After almost three years supporting Spanish culture in the United Kingdom through our website brit-es.org, we’re extremely excited about taking this next step, where we hope to continue our hard work promoting culture by designing, commissioning and producing events relating to the visual and theatrical arts.
CORTOMETRAJES — 7 Short films will take place at 93 Feet East, a legendary spot in the heart of East London, the Old Truman Brewery at 150 Brick Lane.
‘EL GRIFO’ directed by Denis Rovira (Spain, 2010) / Fiction. A family prepares to leave on holiday and the grandfather is left behind to watch over the family home creates a situation about to plunge into the unspeakable. The Faucet brings a resurgence of true-school, old fashioned horror films… when horror wasn’t always synonymous with monsters and blood.
‘JAMÓN’, directed and animated by Iria López (Spain/UK, 2012) / Animation. Jose is a teenage pig living in a Spanish town, and he is the only pig in his family. One day a new neighbour moves in next door, and Jose starts to come to terms with who he really is.
‘OUT ‘ directed by Gsus López (UK, 2014) / Fiction. Mary (Jeff Kristian) is a divorced middle-aged mother living in a small English town. One weekend she receives the visit of her closet-emerging son Oscar. How will Mary make sense of her son’s coming out and the small-town mentality that surrounds her? Blending high-drama theatrics with black comedy, OUT is a coming out story unlike any other you have seen before.
‘ZAPATERO’ directed by Madelon Vroom (Spain/UK, 2014) / Documental. This is a story about a father and a son from two different generations their different view on life provides us with some confronting as well as humorous dialogue. Craftsmanship in Europe is slowly disappearing but will Daniel take over and decide to continue his families’ tradition?
LAS PEQUEÑAS COSAS directed by Carla Simón (Spain/UK, 2014) / Fiction. This is the story of a complex and interdependent relationship between a mother and a daughter who struggle to live together. Ana (40 years old) suffers achondroplasia – dwarfism – and her mother (70 years old), a beautiful, elegant and sophisticated woman, has never accepted her daughter’s condition.
EL MACHO directed and animated by Daniela Negrín (UK, 2011) / Animation. Carlos yearns for order and calm amidst the chaos of his loud family of women. The arrival of Alfonso, an energetic poodle puppy, shatters any dreams he had of peace and quiet. Soon it’s even too much for the women. Something has to be done …
“Ik’pulan Vaichil” (DARK DREAM) directed by Pau Pascual Galbis (México, 2014) / Experimental. Ik’pulan Vaichil (Dark Dream) with Nikka’s dark electronic music is inspired by Tzotzil Mayan myth in Chiapas (Mexico) that i’kal the black bird looking anthropomorphic spectres attack people in their nightmares and also kidnap women. After the arrival of Catholicism these figures became pukuj; perverse and evil devils.
