Director Josema Roig was born and raised in Valencia, Spain. He started working as cinematograher in indie productions, including the feature film ‘The golden age’ for which was awarded with the best cinematography award at the Cyprus International Film Festival in 2010. For ‘Enxaneta’, his last feature as DP was nominated for the Goya Award for Best Cinematography. After studying screenwriting, he wrote and directed ‘Anita’, his debut short film, selected and awarded in a number of film festivals. Filmmaking is a language he wants to explore as a part of the mind itself, and a way to understand the world we live in, as an art and a mysterious experience.
Josema Roig has said that the team’s fascination about the story is Wyatt Star himself “In so many ways we cannot comprehend him, and the choices and sacrifices he makes. His priorities seem to be so counterintuitive. Yet something deep inside of him feels frighteningly familiar to all of us. We are all on some level our own version of Wyatt Star – that is, just as we have trouble understanding many of Star’s choices, some of our own friends and families have trouble understanding ours. We have left behind our families, our homes, our friends, our jobs – all for the dream of making movies. We are all trying to jump our own great distances, often at great costs, and we may very well fall. So who are we? Are we Wyatt Star – the husband, the father, the breakable and fragile human being… or are we Starman? Who should we be? What might we lose along the way? For us, this is a character study of a man who haunts and fascinates us, a man whom we hope might help us understand something new about ourselves, and the Wyatt Star in each of us.”
