Art15 returns to Olympia in London from 21-23 May 2015 and two major curatorial projects are to be unveiled at Art15 this year. Kathleen Soriano, an independent curator and former Director of Exhibitions at the Royal Academy of Arts, is curating ‘Freedom Audit’ , an exhibition focusing on freedom of expression and how artists around the world negotiate boundaries of taste, mutual respect and tolerance.
Recent world events have challenged notions of freedom in the broadest sense and have led us to question the boundaries of taste, of mutual respect and of tolerance. With this concern in mind, Soriano will conduct a curatorial enquiry into the ways in which artists, from across the globe and from a wide-range of cultures, are negotiating a path through these issues and making sense of the politics surrounding them.
From some submissions Soriano began her research on the individual artists and their particular focus before made her selection for this exhibition. That selection was also put together based on the space in which the works are shown at the fair but as she says was primarily looking for work that surprised and challenged her.
Isabel Castro Jung is one of the artists chosen by Kathleen Soriano who will form part of the exhibition with 2 sculptures and will present 2 performances. Her work is based on multilayered projects, focusing on performance, sculpture, and video. The main objects that she creates are called ‘wearable sculptures’. These pieces are extensions of her own body, quite heavy and often uncomfortable. She uses her body as a vehicle to express herself and share her experiences with the audience.
The exhibition will be presented at at the fair and will be complemented by a corresponding programme of events and Brit Es Magazine will be attend the opening, are you going to miss it?
