Cervantes Theatre presents this month ‘Darwin’s Tortoise’ (La Tortuga de Darwin), a play by the renowned Spanish playwright, Juan Mayorga directed by Paula Paz. The show will be presented in both Spanish and English with a translation by David Johnston.
One evening a mysterious old woman appears in the office of a history professor, claiming to be the tortoise Charles Darwin brought back from the Galapagos Islands. Through her experiences of living in 20th century Europe, she tells her own version of history… This will be the first performance of Mayorga’s critically-acclaimed play in the United Kingdom; and the first time that it will be performed in English. Darwin’s Tortoise [La Tortuga de Darwin] will run at the Cervantes Theatre from 22nd February to 18th March, 2017.
The Cervantes Theatre opened its doors in November 2016 by Spanish Theatre Company (STC), a charity which aims to bring the best Spanish and Latin American theatre to London and to British audiences, thereby promoting Spanish language dramatic arts. The theatre stages performances are in Spanish on Monday to Wednesday and English on Thursday to Saturday.
