Upcoming screening in London of Khris Cembe’s ‘VIAJE A PIES’ (‘Travel by Feet’) as part of the program of CORTOMETRAJES, 7 Spanish Short Films.

We are very proud to announce the upcoming screening in London of Khris Cembe’s ‘VIAJE A PIES’ (‘TRAVEL BY FEET’) as part of the programme of CORTOMETRAJES, 7 Spanish Short Films, a screening event curated and produced by Brit Es Magazine in partnership with Shorts On Tap. The event will take place on 18 February at 93 Feet East, a legendary spot in the heart of East London, the Old Truman Brewery at 150 Brick Lane.

The programme is made up of a special selection of 7 short films which offer an eclectic point of view on today’s reality across different genres. As well as watching the films, the audience will get the chance to talk to the directors and meet our special guests.

‘VIAJE A PIES’ (Spain, 2015) is a 2D animation short film about an annoying train journey. The film was pre-selected in the Best Animation Short category at last edition of the Goya Awards.

Synopsis: A night train journey. A wagon full of passengers. An annoying companion in your compartment… What would you be willing to do in order to have a peaceful journey?

Director Khris Cembe was born in Madrid in 1983, grew up in Cangas (Galicia) and currently lives and works in Barcelona. Autodidactic animator, started his career in the popular webseries ‘Cálico Electrónico’. He has worked in a number of well-known animation projects such as the feature film ‘La crisis carnívora’ (Pedro Rivero, 2007) where he worked as animator, the Goya awarded ‘Birdboy’ (Alberto Vázquez & Pedro Rivero, 2010) in charge of visual development, color, backgrounds and animation and he is currently working as animation director for the feature film ‘Psiconautas’ (Alberto Vázquez & Pedro Rivero, 2015). ‘VIAJE A PIES’ is his debut in film directing; in his own words “it tells the story of a traveler who just wants to have a peaceful journey. But many hours trapped in a train eventually it ends up rotting yourself. In this travel only human stupidity will be real. A journey of emotions driven by anger and despair. Travelling is beautiful, but sometimes, it’s only when you get to your destination, right?”

The short film has received a number of accolades worldwide such as Best Basque Short Film, Fant Bilbao (Spain), May 2015; Animation Award, Festival Caostica (Bilbao, Spain), June 2015; Best animation short, Short of the year Spring (Spain), July 2015; Best traditional short, special mention to general film production, Cartón, Festival de la Tribu (Argentina), September 2015; Best animation short film, Certamen Audiovisual de Cabra (Spain), September 2015; Best Foreingn Short Film, Baixada Animada (Brazil), October 2015; Best Animation Epic ACG Fest (USA), November 2015; Best Basque Screenplay Zinebi 57 (Spain), November 2015 and Best Animated Short Film Festival de Cortos de Terror y Fantástico “La Vieja Encina” (Spain), November 2015.

It has also been selected in more that seventy renowned international film festivals, including Annecy International Animation Festival (France), Anima Mundi (Brazil), Imaginaria (Italy), Belo Horizonte International Short Film Festival (Brazil), 3D Wire Fest (Spain), Festival Les Enfants Terribles (Belgium), Spark Animation (Canada), Kaohsiung Film Festival (Taiwan), Eyecatcher International Film Festival (USA), Seoul Best of the Best Animation Festival (South Korea), Festival Internacional de Cine de Gijón (Spain) and Festival Internacional de Cinema de Animaçao de Brasilia (Brazil).
